Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons and Lord Mayor of Belfast Cllr Tracy Kelly attended the launch of the Glencairn Place Shaping Plan 2035 in St Andrew’s Hall, Glencairn on 22 October 2025.
The Place Shaping Plan was co-designed and developed by Community Places in conjunction with the Glencairn Community and a Project Steering Group of statutory and non-statutory bodies providing services in the Glencairn area. We facilitated extensive community and stakeholder engagement throughout the project to ensure that the Plan was truly representative of the community it serves.
The Plan sets out the Community’s vision for Glencairn:
“Glencairn will be a welcoming and involved place, with access to community facilities, quality services, homes and green open spaces, where people will have a continued strong sense of pride and hope for the future.”
Accompanying the vision is a set of regeneration priorities and objectives including:
- Where I go and what I do? – An attractive place to live, that makes the most of its natural setting in the Belfast Hills and has quality play and recreation facilities for the whole community.
- How do I get from one place to another? – A connected Glencairn that is easily accessible with active travel options.
- How I feel and how I care? – A safe place that is well maintained with an active community and a strong voice.
- What I need to live well? – The development of the Community Hub to act as a catalyst for the creation of a village centre to provide homes, shops and services in the heart of Glencairn.
